The role of management information systems in supporting strategic decision-making

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to describe the impact of the use of management information systems on the effectiveness of strategic management. General scientific methods were used, in particular, scientific generalization of information sources regarding the state and development of the digital economy. A review of scientific hypotheses of management information systems in supporting strategic decision-making was conducted and it was recognized that the practical side of the research is aimed at synthesizing business processes and strategy development processes. The results indicate that management information systems are the formation and use of information as information and a product based on the use of technical means. Management based on the use of information systems involves the creation and use of network databases of structured information generated in the main basic programs. The use of information systems in management is an established practice for competitive enterprises and economies, and the most common approaches to making strategic decisions through automation, databases and complete digitalization of management. The article notes that in international practice, sets of tools have been formed to measure the effectiveness of management systems, in particular the Index of the Digital Economy and Society, for Ukraine the index is low. A scheme of information support has been formed, which is implemented through the provision of functional modeling, analysis and includes the functions of knowledge management, simulation modeling, and data mining. The results of the study emphasize the role of the information systems strategy in the efficiency of activities and indicate that it is a secondary strategy integrated into the overall business strategy. The conclusions of the study characterize that the entrepreneurship strategy is primary, and the information strategy is formed on its basis. The role of management information systems in supporting strategic decision-making has been determined.
