Adaptation of logistics systems to war conditions using the example of the Ukrainian defense industry

Abstract

Since the beginning of the war, the Ukrainian defense industry has faced a number of logistical challenges that arose in the context of an emergency. The aim of the study is to analyze the adaptation of logistics systems in wartime conditions using the example of the Ukrainian defense industry. The study focuses on identifying key challenges, assessing the effectiveness of logistics transformations, and defining strategies to increase resilience and operational efficiency. Given the disruption of supply chains, the destruction of infrastructure, and the increase in demand for military products, the study examines how logistics systems have evolved to meet the needs of the defense sector. The research methodology is based on a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, including a literature review, comparative analysis, and content analysis of scientific publications. The application of these approaches allows us to assess the level of readiness of Ukrainian defense industry enterprises to adapt to war conditions and identify important factors affecting the efficiency of logistics processes. The results indicate that Ukraine’s defense industry quickly adapted to wartime conditions by decentralizing production, using alternative supply routes, and integrating digital technologies for logistics management. Increased cooperation between government agencies and private enterprises has facilitated the procurement and distribution of key resources. Despite these improvements, challenges remain, including logistical bottlenecks, dependence on foreign supply chains, and cybersecurity threats. The study highlights the role of adaptive logistics in supporting defense production and ensuring stable supplies of critical military equipment. The article concludes that the adaptation of logistics systems during martial law is a dynamic process that requires constant innovation, strategic planning, and international cooperation. Strengthening domestic production capacity, improving transport infrastructure, and improving logistics coordination between the public and private sectors are key to maintaining efficiency.
